Florida - Tuesday, June 18th...

June 29, 2002

I was the first one awake on Tuesday morning, which is totally unlike me, lol. Jen and Tonya are both early birds, but I was really just so very anxious to get going. The plan was the drop the kids off in Charlotte and then head to Savannah. We all got ready pretty quickly, packed up the van, ate breakfast and then headed out. The kids were again very good!! I really was very impressed with them, especially since Jen was so worried that they wouldn't do so well in the car for such long periods of time. Nicole was having fun playing with Tonya, and the boys were so good with their games and books. It was an easy ride.

The scenery driving through the mountains was absolutely stunning, and it just made for a great ride. The only bummer thing that happened was Jen's ticket...but I will let her tell that one, giggle. Let's just say, it kept us going the speed limit for the rest of the ride. One funny story...our directions took us out of North Carolina, into South Carolina for a short period of time.. since we were going to Charlotte (in NC), we were not expecting the detour into SC.. and when we was the sign, Jen and I just looked at each other with the same look of puzzelment, and then we just bust out laughing. It was cute. We were right on course though, and got to Charlotte before we knew it. The first stop was a short visit with Jen's parents. I am glad that she got to visit with them, and it seemed to mean alot to them too. Then it was off to drop the kids off at Jen's MILs house. We only stayed there for a few minutes, and then we were off...and on our way!!

The first thing we did after we dropped the kids off was play our Floriday CDs and that set the mood for the rest of the day. It really was a great time and noone seemed to mind the time in the car at all. It started raining, pretty heavily, outside of Savannah, and we were a little bummed about that, but it was okay. We got to the hotel and checked in. I was so enthralled with the trees with all the spanish moss and had so much fun just looking around.

Savannah is such a beautiful place, one that I would totally love to visit for a longer period of time. I really think that Stephen would love it there as well, so maybe we will have to go together some time. We decided to go out to dinner, and decided to try this seafood place, The Shell House.. well first of all, if you know me, you know that there are very few types of seafood that I will eat, and so we sent Tonya in, in the rain to see if they had certain fishes... after the second trip in, they told her.. we have anything in a Shell. LMAO, DUH. They probably thought she was nuts. It was funny though, and we laughed all the way back to the Cracker Barrel (told you we spent a lot of time there). We had fun shopping while we waited for our dinner too, and Tonny bought us the cutest little gifts (I have mine scenting up my bathroom right now) and she got Jen a cup and saucer which totally brought tears to Jen's eyes, and now she is going to start collecting them, to go along with one she has from her grandmother.

When we got back to the hotel, Tonya and I decided to swim in the rain. They had a beautiful outdoor pool at the hotel, and we wanted to swim, so we braved the rain. As we were swimming though, it stopped raining, so we ran to the room to get ready to go for the Ghosts of Savannah tour that we so wanted to do. We got there just in time, and found the tour easily. It was wonderful!!!

The tour was a 2 hour walking tour, and while it was more historical than scary, it was perfect and we all enjoyed it very much. Again it is totally something that I knew that Stephen would totally enjoy, so I hope to go back someday. They had the cutest little shops and stuff that I would have loved to explore, and I was so wishing we had another day there, it was just a wonderful wonderful place. It was pretty late when we got back to the hotel room, so we got ready for bed right away. I was so wired though, and okay, really missing Stephen by this point, and I just couldn't go to sleep, but Tonny stayed awake with me, and we watched the Food TV Network for a while, and got to watch Emeril which we both love. Jen was asleep right away and the TV didn't bother her any. That girl can sleep, when she is ready for bed, giggle.

Another perfect day.
